I agree it is probably the economy bringing people to act like lower life forms. People in Michigan seem to be unhappy all the time (not so much family thankfully!) If I was in your position, I would remember the kind of people you get in your store. Lower socioeconomic people usually don't have the social skills necessary to interact with others because they most likely haven't had those skills enforced by parents. I would approach the situation by calmly reminding them that you are assisting another customer right now, and will be right with them. If they get mad, that means that they don't have the social skills to react appropriately. Remember that it is never your fault that they are reacting that way. They just don't know how to react in a good way. Speak slowly and clearly, and they should get the picture. If they complain to your supervisor, make sure the conversation that they had with you is documented and you will be fine. Ok, I'm done with my rant :)

Good job dealing with this guy David! People with autism are not easy to talk to and guide away from their behaviors. Did you happen to tell his parents what you found him doing? Don't ever worry about offending or being they bad guy in this situation. If the parents really want him to be treated like everyone else, he should be addressed that way. In the future, I would tell the parents or caregivers (and make sure they are looking at you in the eye) what the situation was and how it was handled. At least they will process this and hopefully do something about it!

Oh my god. When I first looked at it, I didn't know if was you or me in that picture :) I have no idea what I was going for. We bought a camcorder- I'll send you the link from Best Buy if I can find it. Also we're getting new cell phones today. Can you believe the technology? Who knows, next may be cable. Probably not.

HI! Isn't it nice to realize that you are happy? I've come to that conclusion as well. Maybe it's our generation where we never expected to have it as easy as the older generation had it. Basics like jobs and security were very easy to come by for older people. It is not as easy now with global markets, wayyyyy to many people on this planet, and everything is either disposable or doesn't matter in the long run.
