Leelanau Whippersnapper

OK, I am ripping off a post from another blog I’ve read.  First, the previous post on gas prices…it appears that I was the only person reporting Maple City’s gas prices to that web site.  So, if I miss a day, it doesn’t show up on the map.  Go figure.  If you care, the Mobile gas station in Maple city is ALWAYS about $0.15-0.20 higher EVERY DAY compared to Traverse City.  This is highway robbery and should be swiftly condemned.  You tourists are being HOSED at the pump in Leelanau.  DON’T BUY YOUR GAS IN LEELANAU COUNTY!  Save a few bucks and buy it at Meijer in Traverse City when you are there buying groceries anyway.

Now then on to the reason for this post.  The longer I am separated from Jirar the more I tend to reflect on my life and where I am in my life.  First, I have absolutely no regrets about where I am today or who I am today.  Despite my rants, I do in fact really like my job, I don’t have many friends but the friends I have, I value, and I am quite happy living up here in red neck land because it gives me something to smile about every day (and it sure beats the gang wars I was dealing with in Grand Rapids).  That said, I came across this tonight and figured I would share it.  Some time ago, I fancied learning about far east religions if for no other reason than the logical truths that come out of them in the form of convenient little sayings.  Here are 18 Rules for Living as stated by the Dalai Lama.  Credit to OwenKelly.net

1. Take into account that great love and great achievements involve great risk.
2. When you lose, don’t lose the lesson.
3. Follow the three Rs:
   1. Respect for self
   2. Respect for others
   3. Responsibility for all your actions.
4. Remember that not getting what you want is sometimes a wonderful stroke of luck.
5. Learn the rules so you know how to break them properly.
6. Don’t let a little dispute injure a great friendship.
7. When you realize you’ve made a mistake, take immediate steps to correct it.
8. Spend some time alone every day.
9. Open your arms to change, but don’t let go of your values.
10. Remember that silence is sometimes the best answer.
11. Live a good, honourable life. Then when you get older and think back, you’ll be able to enjoy it a second time.
12. A loving atmosphere in your home is the foundation for your life.
13. In disagreements with loved ones, deal only with the current situation. Don’t bring up the past.
14. Share your knowledge. It’s a way to achieve immortality.
15. Be gentle with the earth.
16. Once a year, go someplace you’ve never been before.

OK folks, what is wrong with this map below? Look at Traverse City area and then look at the Maple City gas station price. Keep in mind that Maple city is 20 miles from Traverse City which absolutely CAN NOT be considered a difficult distance for any hauler to travel outside a metro area. There is NO reason the price of gas should be $0.15 higher out here compared with TC. I’ve become a regular contributor to www.michigangasprices.com and I frequently update prices of gas in Leelanau County as I see them. Don’t buy your gas out here folks under any circumstance. Don’t even buy your convenience foods out here. Those of you who do are BEING RIPPED OFF BIG TIME!!!!  You can move the map around by clicking on it and holding down your mouse button.
