It Begins

Sun ,09/11/2008

Well, here we go.  We got our first snow of the season that stuck to the ground last night.  Not much really but the forecast is calling for an inch today and another 2 inches tonight.  I don’t suspect we will get that much at all but the temperature will certainly allow it.  It’s VERY cold outside.  I’m not a big fan of winter up here in the north woods.  This season lasts FOREVER and a day and it’s generally not good for my mental health.  There is nothing I hate more than being stuck inside OR stuck on the side of the road for that matter, it drives me crazy and it makes me lazy.

Speaking of lazy, yesterday was a VERY lazy day.  I didn’t do anything all day long.  I did discover that my ceiling fan in the living room has lights in it and so I did clean that thing all up and get those working but I spent all day either messing around on the computer or watching TV.  Despite how that sounds, I do need days like that where I don’t have to do anything.  Days when I can just sit around and do whatever I want, whenever I want.  It is rare that I get that sort of opportunity so I take full advantage of it when I do.  I decided yesterday that I would also start selling stuff again on eBay.  Looking ahead to Christmas, it would be nice to have a few extra bucks available to spend on gifts this year.  So, we’ll see if I can make any money selling some of the shit I don’t need anymore on eBay.  Even though I cleaned out my entire life during the move last year and I actually donated about 30 bags of stuff to Good Will, I still have tons of stuff that I just don’t need or use.  Why keep it if I’m not ever going to use it, wear it, or look at it???

Today I’m going to go out to the cottage.  I was going to spend the weekend out there but then I got lazy yesterday and never made it out of the house.  I think I’ll take Gavin over to Lake Michigan and maybe go up to Glen Arbor for some coffee.  It’s gonna be COLD today so I’m not sure how long I’ll last but it will be more productive than sitting around here all day.

Lazy Summer

Sun ,20/07/2008

I admit it, I’ve been a little lazy when it comes to this blog.  Today I got emails from my web host letting me know what I’ve got a month to renew my domain names (leelanauphotography.com and leelanauwhippersnapper.com).  No big deal, $8 each.  I’ve also got to renew my subscription with Zenfolio by the end of August in order to keep the photography site alive.  Again no big deal (hey mom and dad, how about that birthday gift?).  I’ve added some new functionality to the blog tonight.  On the right, you’ll see 12 pictures.  They are random samplings from my photography site.  They will be something new each time you visit the blog.  Just a good way to promote the photography web site I think.  I’ve also added a post calendar so you can see what days I’ve actually written something and I’ve added a search box in case you ever need to find something that I’ve written in the past.  WHOO HOO!  Right?

Well the apartment hunt is going pretty well.  I toured a condo today that I think I’m going to take if I can get it from the Realtor who was showing it.  I’ve already sent in my application and told him I’m ready to go TODAY.  This was a great little 2 bedroom 2 bath condo right off of Garfield.  Comes with a small fenced in yard for Gavin and a 2 car garage.  It’s in a managed community with a pool and other amenities.  It’s also listed for sale but apparently the owner will take whoever makes an offer first so I made an offer on it.  Pretty much right within my budget and very close to work.  Just crossing my fingers now waiting for a call back telling me I got it.  Then I have to round up the cash to make it happen right away.  I’ll have to be creative with that.  Anyhow I hope I get it.

After the tour, I took Gavin out for a boat ride at the cottage.  Pretty nice day today.  Not crazy hot but really not unpleasant.  I decided to test my shallow water skills and we took the boat through the narrows and out to the North Lake.  Always a trip to do that, no problems though.  Had a swan hiss at me, what evil birds they are.  Tonight I’ve just been sitting around doing not much of anything.  I’ve not had a day like that in a LONG while.  It’s nice to just relax now and then.

So, off to bed now, I’ll be writing more about the apartment hunt again soon.

How I spent my Christmas Eve

Tue ,25/12/2007

I thought about doing a pictoral essay on Christmas Eve 2007 but then I figured a big sassy picture of the Grinch would just not do justice to my day.  I had only one pleasant part of my day and that was a nice fat steak dinner at my parents.  Yum.

Work was, well, stupid to put it nicely.  It was slow as expected.  What I had forgotten about however was that the typical Christmas Eve shopper is a complete ASSHOLE with a capitol A.  Not only have they put off shopping for Christmas until just a few hours before, they all seem to forget that we employees have families too that we would MUCH rather be spending time with for this holiday.  Even if you are not religious, this holiday in America is about spending time with family.  Do you really think that ANYONE working today actually wanted to be there?  Do you really think that ANY of us give a flying fuck that you are pissed off because we are closing early so WE can spend time with OUR families?  No, you people don’t give a shit about anyone but yourself.   FUCK ALL OF YOU, start shopping earlier next year you MORONS.

Here’s the part where I had a great meal with my folks.

Now on to the part where I am home at the computer and all I can smell in the house is CAT PEE.  I couldn’t take it anymore tonight.  I spent 3 hours cleaning the basement where my roommate lives.  I cleaned the laundry room, her bathroom floors, the entry way (where the cat pee was), I vaccummed for what I guessed was the first time since she moved in.  I had resolved ONLY to keep the laundry room clean since that was a common area of the basement.  She is a grown woman, I am not her fucking housekeeper.  She has free reign of all the other rooms and I don’t feel by any stretch that it is in any way my responsibility to clean her living space.  I clean my living space daily (thanks Mom for training me not to be a complete slob).  I keep the floors clean, I pick up after myself, I do the dishes, I make my bed, I clean my clothes, I fucking shower DAILY.  She does none of those things and I have a FULL vacuum bag to prove it.  Sadly, when she returns from her little holiday, she will not have noticed that anything is different.  I will not be thanked for cleaning up her cat’s pee and litter that was all over the floor.  I won’t be thanked for throwing out a dipping sauce from 3 months ago that had things growing on it.  I won’t be thanked for clipping the dead leaves off her pathetic looking house plants and watering them.  She won’t notice that the floor is clean, her laundry is folded, the cat boxes are clean and they all have food.  She won’t know that I threw away 5 really old orange peels that had dried up or that I spent 30 minutes cleaning the carpets with spot treatment to get who knows what out of the floors that weren’t there before she moved in.

The fact that I’ve still managed to remain civil to her is amazing.  I should in fact receive a gold star but alas I won’t.  She’s been bitching lately that it smells in the basement.  WELL DUHHHHHHH dip shit.  When you don’t pick up after yourself things STINK.

Anyhow, I’m done now.  Now I’m going to relax and finish preparing for Christmas Day.  I still have a couple of things yet I need to do with the gifts and I’ll be good to go.  Have a Happy Christmas readers, I’ll be back on the 26th or soon there after with more from my crazy life.
