Ever Changing, Always the Same

Tue ,19/05/2009

Well, as you can see there is a new theme that I am trying out on this blog.  As you know, I can’t stand to have things look the same forever.  It gives me a headache.  I’m not sure if I will keep this one or not but until I have time (maybe this weekend) to play around a bit more, this one will have to do.  I’ve uploaded a great new gallery tonight at leelanauphotography.com featuring the Cherry Blossoms of 2009 (among other things).  Be sure to check it out.  I had a nice day off today out at the cottage.  Mom and I went for a drive with Gavin up to the Northport area and stopped at Peterson Park.  It’s still a little cold up here for what is fast becoming late spring however I was able to get some great pictures.  Gavin is now snoring loudly sprawled out on my bed, exhausted from a day of hiking and swimming.  Doesn’t take much.

The folks are off to Iowa in a couple days and leaving me to fend for myself over the Memorial Day holiday.  I’m not sure yet if I will venture out to the cottage or not this weekend.  I’m not really sure I want to deal with the droves of people who will arrive for a few days and then disappear until the 4th of July when they will come back.  It seems crazy that people spend all this money on a lake house and only use it a few days out of the year.  I know people have to work, it just seems strange.

Not much else going on right now.  I am slowly working on a new web site but I’ve not yet come up with a name for it or a general theme.  I don’t want it to detract from my readership on this site so it has to be something completely different.  I’ve got to figure out what I have time for and what I want to explore.  I picked up a web hosting package in December for $20 for 2 years (SUPER cheap)…frivolous spending since I didn’t need it and now I’ve had it for 5 months and not done anything with it.  We’ll see.  Maybe I should create an autobiographical web site….from Birth to Old Fart…the life and times of David the Dork….haha.

Here is a picture from the new gallery.  Check it out.

Historical Preservation

Sun ,06/01/2008

So last night, I spent some time playing with the scanner and some of my old photographs. I’ve started a gallery on leelanauphotography for some “historical preservation”. 99% of the pictures I have are of me so the vanity isn’t on purpose but it’s no secret that I have an ego, some of these old pictures are crazy funny. The parents are going through all the old photo books and sorting them out for Sarah and me. That’s their winter project this year. There will eventually be lots of pictures in that gallery, hopefully Sarah will do the same with her batch and put them on Divatime, once Dad gets high speed, maybe I can teach him to do the same with all his old photos too. These will give Sarah’s child something to laugh at seeing us both dressed up in plaid, polyester, valuer bell bottom suits (OK well maybe not that bad). Enjoy the picture below, I’m about 6 or 7 in this picture I think, pretty certain I did not want to be holding those fish! I think this is the only time I ever caught anything in Lake Leelanau, I’ll have to ask my parents if I enjoyed eating them or not. Considering I don’t care for fish now, probably not.

The “Cottage”

Wed ,26/09/2007

Well, amazing.  The cottage is now nearly complete.  The upstairs windows went in today and the shake shingles were hung.  Only thing left now to do is have a dishwasher installed and hang up the blinds.  It’s taken since the end of May which, in fact, is not really that long a time considering what they have done to the house.  It’s completely different now from what it was.  Very cool to see.

The weather is getting frightful up here.  Starting to turn colder which means that I’ll be writing more often now that I can’t get outside comfortably much longer.  I’ll be posting a batch of fall colors on leelanauphotography.com in a few days.  If the weather is nice this weekend, I am going hiking with my dog and my camera.  Hopefully to bring back some choice pictures of my favorite time of year up here.  Stay tuned.

I’m still a non-smoker!!  YEH.  It’s been 4 full days now since I’ve smoked.  I am using the patch to help me quit.  Even though the ‘success’ rate is less than 10% by users of the patch, it seems to help me pretty well.  My biggest problem is finding things to do when I would normally just go have a cigarette.  Normally, I’d have chosen to just go smoke rather than spend this much time writing a blog entry!  I need to get into an exercise routine and kick this expensive habit for good.  I can’t afford to smoke anymore….and not just monetarily.

Helpfully I’ll have a little more to say tomorrow.
